Baga Gazriin Chuluu

Baga Gazriin Chuluu is a granite rock mountain formation in the Gobi desert, often compared with lunar scenes. Legends say that local people have hidden in the many caves from the royalties. Monks also found it to be a place of solace and meditation since the 17th century. Tourists enjoy the unique scenery and visiting the old stone temple ruins. Baga Gazriin Chuluu is rich in crystals and minerals, and is also known for the many herbs that grow here, used for medicinal purposes. Many species of animals call it their home, such as wild sheep, ibex and marmot.

Ulaan Baatar

Ulaanbaatar, the capital of the Republic of Mongolia, is situated at the foot of the Bogdo Khan Uul, which rises 3,000 feet above the city. Ulaanbaatar is the political, cultural, economic and transportation center of the country. It has an international airport, the only university in the country and a library with ancient Mongolian, Chinese and Tibetan manuscripts. Founded in 1649 as a monastery town, Ulaanbaatar still preserves the monastery section and residence of the Living Buddha, once Mongolia’s spiritual leader.
